Indian Girl Tarishi among 20 Foreigners Killed by Terrorists in Dhaka

Tarishi Jain, an Indian girl, is among the 20 foreigners killed by terrorists at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka.

Tarishi’s body was identified on Saturday. Her relatives are now reported to be arriving in Dhaka to be with the family.  Last rites of Tarishi will take place in India.

Terrorists killed 20 foreigners, most of them being Italian and Japanese nationals, in the worst terror attack in Bangladesh. Commandos later launched a joint operation led by the armed forces, in which six attackers were killed, while one was captured alive.

According to Director of Military Operations Brigadier General Nayeem Ashfaq Chowdhury, most of those killed were found with their throat slit. Two senior police officers were also killed in these attacks.

Tarishi Jain, 19, had arrived from US a few days back for summer vacations. On Friday, she had gone out with two of her friends to Holey Artisan Bakery, which overlooks Gulshan Lake and was located close to Tarishi’s residence in Gulshan area.

According to sources, Tarishi might have been subjected to torture from terrorists before being killed.

Tarishi’s father, Sanjeev Jain, has been running a garment business in Dhaka for the past 15-20 years.

“I am extremely pained to share that the terrorists have killed Tarushi (the spelling was later found to be Tarishi), an Indian girl who was taken hostage in the terror attack in Dhaka… I have spoken to her father Shri Sanjeev Jain and conveyed our deepest condolences. The country is with them in this hour of grief. We are arranging visa for the family.” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a series of tweets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the terror attack in Dhaka.

“The attack in Dhaka has pained us beyond words. I spoke to PM Sheikh Hasina & strongly condemned the despicable attack. India stands firmly with our sisters & brothers of Bangladesh in this hour of grief. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover quickly.” he tweeted.

Another Indian national, Dr Satyapal, a doctor at a Bangladesh hospital, is said to have narrowly escaped a similar fate. He was standing near the bushes and talking to someone on his mobile when terrorists stormed the cafe.

“When the terrorists started firing, he jumped across the bushes and fled. He is still very shaken,” an Indian official told The Sunday Express.

Among the people rescued were Indian, Sri Lankan and Japanese nationals.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq news agency, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence group. A series of photographs were issued, showing dead bodies lying in pools of blood. Amaq said 24 people were killed in the attack carried out by “ISIS commandos”.
