Ireland is 10th Most Reputable Country in the World, Canada and Switzerland Top the List

Ireland is the 10th most reputable country in the world, according to a new survey carried out by research firm The Reputations Agency.

Ireland’s overall score, 77.47 out of 100, was up despite dropping one place since last year.

In this study, reputation of 55 countries was evaluated based on 17 attributes including admiration, esteem, and good image that a country evokes. All the attributes were grouped into the three dimensions: effective government (making up 37% of the score), appealing environment (38%), and Advanced Economy (25%). The study was conducted in March this year, and over 39,000 G8 citizens participated in the survey. The study results highlight the opportunities and risks for each of the 55 countries.

Canada and Switzerland were adjudged the most reputable country in the world, with a score of 82.75 points out of 100. The top five spots were filled by Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. The survey revealed that the United States of America is experiencing a big loss in its reputation under Trump’s presidency, dropping to 38th in 2017 from 28th in 2016. The UK experienced a loss of five places, may be due to Brexit. It slipped to 18th place in 2017 from 13th in 2016. While its internal reputation improved, its score dropped in “work”, “buy”, and “invest”. Iraq (28.3), Iran (32.8), Pakistan (37.3), Nigeria (38.8) and Russia (40.3) were the lowest rated countries in the list. Egypt, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates saw the biggest improvement in their ranking.

Ireland improved its score across 14 attributes, including “The people of the country are friendly and welcoming” “Is a beautiful country”, “Is an enjoyable country”, and “Offers an appealing lifestyle”.

“As competition intensifies internationally, a country’s reputation matters more than ever,” said Niamh Boyle, managing director at the Reputations Agency.

“It is encouraging to see Ireland consolidate its strong global reputation in this year’s study.”

According to Ms. Boyle, people see Ireland as beautiful country in the world as well as a safe place and friendly place with welcoming people.
