Work on Indira Market Redevelopment Plan in Dehradun to Start by June End

Dehradun: Authorities in Dehradun will start work on much-awaited Indira Market Redevelopment Plan by June end. During first phase of the plan, some shopkeepers in the Indira market will be shifted to temporary shops and construction work at the site will be started.

Indira market is located in the heart of Dehradun city and one of the top shopping destinations in the city. There are around 531 shops in the market. The idea to turn the market into a modern shopping complex was proposed by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) in 2015. The idea was to develop the market into a modern market equipped with all public utilities. Although, some shopkeepers opposed the idea initially, but now most of them have given their consent to this plan.

MDDA officials have now inspected the site and started working on temporary shops planning. About 531 shops will be demolished in the market and a new multi-story shopping complex will be constructed at the site. The complex will have all modern facilities, shops, multiple pedestrian entries, open spaces, and parking facility. The newly-constructed shops will be allotted to those shopkeepers who had vacated their shops in the market.

MDDA has already prepared the plan that will be implanted in PPP mode. Shops from both sides of the road in Indira Market will be demolished and a five new blocks will be constructed. Blocks A, B, and C will have three basements and four upper floors. Block D will have three basements and ten upper floors. Block E will have three basements and 11 upper floors.
