Ayushman Khurana and Parineeti Chopra starrer Meri Pyaari Bindu was released in India on 12 May 2017.
The box office collection of Meri Pyaari Bindu in India at the end of day 2 was Rs 4 crores. The movie earned Rs 2.25 Cr on Saturday alone. By the end of Sunday, the movie had raked in Rs 6.05 crore the box office. It seems the gamble of releasing movie when Baahubali 2 was still doing good business didn’t pay off, and the movie could not get as much love as it deserved from the audience.
According to experts, one of the reasons for the movie getting a small opening is its limited release (750 screens). But, keeping that apart, the occupancy in theatres was also low. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed on Twitter, “#MeriPyaariBindu Fri 1.75 crore, Sat 2.25 crore, Sun 2.50 crore. Total: Rs 6.50 crore India biz.”
Experts were expecting the movie to do better in its first weekend, considering the interesting storyline of the movie and the decent buzz created by the movie trailer. Parineeti also sung her dubut song in the movie. Some trade experts had predicted that movie would rake in Rs 10 crore over the first weekend, but it appears that it didn’t worked with the audience.
The story of the movie revolves around Abhimanyu (a Mumbai-based writer of bestsellers) and Bindu (an aspiring singer and an reluctant reader). Abhimanyu is not very much proud of his books, and then decides to write an emotional love story drawn from his own life. The rest of the story depicts the ambitions of these two individuals and their urge for freedom.
