Vidya Balan starrer Begum was released on Friday and its box office collection on first day was Rs 3.94 crore in India.
It is Hindi adaptation of Bengali film Rajkahini and narrates true events in the backdrop of Punjab during India’s partition in 1947.
In Jharkhand, the chief minister Raghubar Das decided to declare the movie tax-free in the state as most of the shooting of this movie was completed in Jharkhand. The makers of the movie also got a subsidy of Rs 2 crore from the state government for promoting Jharkhand as a suitable film destination.
“Delighted to announce that ‘Begum Jaan’ has been declared tax free in Jharkhand and has also been given a subsidy of 2 cr under the Government Policy of Promotion of Jharkhand as a Film Destination,” wrote Director Srijit Mukherji on Twitter.
Mahesh Bhatt, the producer of the movie, also expressed his joy on Twiter, and thanked CM Das for this decision.
Bhatt wrote, “Thank you Jharkhand! Thank you Raghubar Das Ji! Your support to our film ‘Begum Jaan’ has made a great difference. Thank you! @dasraghubar.”
Actress Gauhar Khan, who played the character of Rubina in the movie, says she is happy to have got this opportunity as the role helped her evolve as an actress. The character was not easy to play for Gauhar and she gave her 100 percent in the role. In Begum Jaan, the character of Rubina is a sex worker who supports Begum Jaan in every situation. However, she becomes a victim of partition.
