Badrinath Highway Remains Closed for the Past Three Days

Badrinath highway could not be opened on Friday at Lambagad for the third consecutive day. Continuous rain disturbed the efforts being done by the administration to open the highway. The Malari highway, which connects Niti Border to the other parts of country, is also blocked at Suraithota for the past three days.

In Uttarkashi district, traffic could not be operated for six hours on Gangotri highway near Thirang due to landslide.

In Chamoli district, Badrinath Highway remained blocked due to rocks and stones sliding from hills after heavy rainfall in the district on Wednesday. The rain also interrupted the maintenance work being done by BRO near Radang Band. The Helang-Urgam motor road is also blocked near Thaina Band. Praveen Kumar, the assistant engineer, NH Unit, PWD,  said they are unable to start the highway maintenance work due to heavy rain.

Several roads in the Pinder valley were blocked on Friday after landslide in the region. The Tharali-Deval motor road also became dangerous for travellers after landslide blocked the road near Sahoo village. The Gwaldam-Khampadhar motor road is also closed presently due to rocks coming on the road after landslide. For the past three days, traffic on Gangotri highway is getting disturbed due to intermittent road blockage. There are seven danger zones identified by authorities on the Gangotri highway and these danger zones bring lots of troubles for the commuters during heavy rainfall in the area. Authorities are currently taking essential steps to open the highways and roads as earliest as possible in Uttarakhand.
