Earthquake Hits Uttarakhand; Tremors felt across Northern India

An earthquake of the magnitude 5.8 on the Richter was felt across northern India at 10:35 PM on Monday.

According to initial reports, the epicentre of the earthquake was located close to Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand, and at a depth of about 20 km.

Tremors were felt across northern India, including Delhi and NCR, and Dehradun city, the capital of Uttarakhand. People in Mussoriee, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Saharanpur, Pithoragarh, Mathura, Rishikesh, Shamli and Chandigarh also felt tremors.

Tremors were felt for about 30 seconds at some places.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal posted his message on Twitter: “I pray for everyone’s safety”, Kejriwal said.

No loss of life and property has been reported so far.
