Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has admitted that he deleted comments from a Donald Trump-supporting community on his site. According to Huffman, he removed comments from “The_Donald” community page, which has been one of the most well-known communities supporting Donald Trump online.
Steve Huffman, the co-founder of Reddit, uses the name spez to post comments on Reddit.
“Hey Everyone,” Huffman wrote in response to a user who pointed out that admins appeared to be editing users posts.
Huffman said he deleted some comments that he believed were criticizing him. In comments “fu#k u/spez”, the name was changed to those of the managers of the subreddit.
“Yep. I messed with the “f#ck u/spez” comments, replacing “spez” with r/the_donald mods for about an hour. It’s been a long week here trying to unwind the r/pizzagate stuff. As much as we try to maintain a good relationship with you all, it does get old getting called a pedophile constantly. As the CEO, I shouldn’t play such games, and it’s all fixed now. Our community team is pretty pissed at me, so I most assuredly won’t do this again.”
In a separate reply, he said he had been altering the site in order that he could “troll the trolls”.
The Pizzagate was the fake news story that claimed that Hillary Clinton and John Podesta were involved in child abuse acts in a pizza restaurant in Washington, DC. This fake story was promoted by some users on Reddit. When Reddit management intervened to stop the promotion of that story on Reddit, Donald Trump supporters criticized the management. It was then that Mr Huffman edited some posts on Reddit.
