Update: August 11, 2016

The popular social media site Reddit is down right now, on August 11, 2016 — down for the past one hour.

Reddit is a highly popular website offering something for everyone provided a person is able to find the right subreddit. The site offers a platform to people across the world to read, post, and vote about anything, and so it is not very much difficult to understand why even a slight problem with the website affects so many users across the world.

This hugely popular website, dubbed Reddit, has gown down today on Thursday, and every attempt to access the site results in the message that the website is down for “emergency maintenance.”

According to site redditstatus, Reddit has gone down after crashing during software upgrade. Redditstatus says Reddit “had a slight issue with a routine software upgrade.”

It is unclear whether this outage has resulted due to some “algorithm changes” that CEO Steve Huffman talked out yesterday in a post.

The absence of Reddit, the front page of the internet, for the past one hour has created a big void in the lives of its users, who are now turning to Twitter to complain about it.

“Reddit is down… now what do I do at work?” one user said on Twitter.

Another user suggests people should be ready for a population boom in about 9 months.

Update: Reddit is back after about three hours and is running with only a few errors.

Reddit has a history of going down regularly. Last time, the site went down on 09 June 2016, and any user trying to access the site received the message “our cdn was unable to reach our servers” on screens.

Earlier, Reddit was down on May 2, 2016, and seemed to be hit by a ‘503 error’.

“Our cdn was unable to reach our servers”

“Please try again in a minute.”

In many earlier instances, users were able to access the site (when Reddit was down) by being logged in. But this time, the problem was limited to only some regions, and it existed irrespective of whether users were logged in or not.

“You won’t be able to log in. We’re sorry and are working frantically to fix the problem.”
