Master of Orion Reboot Launching on August 25

Wargaming has announced that it will release the reboot Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars on August 25.

Master of Orion is a turn-based strategy game series that has been dormant for the past many years. The original Master of Orion was released by MicroProse in 1993, and helped launch the 4X formula (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) into space. Many people rank it among the best strategy games ever released. Two sequels of the game were also released later.

In 2013, the rights to the Master of Orion property were purchased by Wargaming during an Atari bankruptcy auction. Last year, the publisher revealed its plans to release mechanically improved version of the game.

In the game, players conquer enemy alien planets while exploring the galaxy and finding resources. The reboot features 10 races from the original 1990s games. Players try to win tactical, real-time battles. Voice actors include Michael Dorn, Mark Hamill, and Alan Tudyk.

Players having a Wargaming.net account will have to shell out $29.99 for standalone Master of Orion for Windows PC that will include a free copy of 1997 realtime strategy game Total Annihilation. A Collector’s Edition will cost $49.99, offering three original Master of Orion games, a digital art book, a full orchestral soundtrack, retro pixel ships skins, and an extra alien race: the Terran Khanate.

The reboot Master of Orion is available for pre-order on GOG and Steam.

Jacob Beucler, Publishing Product Director for Master of Orion said: “The journey for Master of Orion’s reboot has been an amazing one, and now we’ve approached our destination.”

“Along for the ride was the Master of Orion community, sharing their thoughts and guiding us toward an amazing Master of Orion experience for the new age!”

Wargaming is the developer of some popular online games like World of Warships and World of Tanks, where players have to team up to face opposing squads of tanks and battleships. Earlier this year, the publisher had acquired Gas Powered Games.
