Blizzard May Announce StarCraft HD Remaster in September: Reports

“Overwatch” developer Blizzard may be developing StarCraft HD Remaster game for the PC and Mac, according to some reports, and may announce the game in September this year. The company is however expected to reveal more details about the game in its BlizzCon event to be held in November.

Citing multiple sources, the Korean site iNews 24 claimed that the StarCraft HD Remaster game may be announced in September.  The remastered game will be have improved user interface and graphics/resolution, while featuring original gameplay of StarCraft that was released in 1998. It is not yet clear whether StarCraft HD Remaster will be released in 2D or 3D or will it have both the single-player and multiplayer gameplay from the original StarCraft game.

“Today, multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard internal plans said that Blizzard will reveal StarCraft HD to the public this September. The StarCraft HD remastered version will retain the original gameplay and is said to have improved graphics resolution and user interface (UI),” iNews24 stated.

The original StarCraft game was released about 18 years back in 1998, and since then, several expansion packs of the game have been released. Blizzard took more than 10 years to release the sequel, “StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty” in 2010. It then released Heart of the Swarm in 2013 and last year, the sequel “StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void” was released. According to IGN, the “StarCraft” franchise is still popular in South Korea, and despite its age, the original StarCraft ranks among the top ten Korean net cafe rankings. The game has also been a big hit across the globe. Some experts believe that since the StarCraft II World Championship Series is ending in September in Mexico, an announcement about StarCraft HD during that time would make sense.

The current minimum system requirements for the StarCraft II consist of an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ processor, 2 GB RAM, 30 GB hard disk storage, AMD Radeon HD 2600 XT or Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT graphics card, and Windows XP. Systems with integrated graphics need at least an Intel HD Graphics 3000 component. StarCraft’s release for Windows and the Mac in March 1998 was followed by the Brood War expansion in November of 1998. It is now expected that Blizzard will stuff together these two releases into a single game. However, Blizzard has not officially commented on whether “StarCraft” HD Remaster is in development or not. Until that happens, people can only speculate about the game and its launch.
